Houston, Texas (KTRK)-A 17-year-old girl tragically lost her life after a crash and then fell to her death under the overpass of the Sam Houston Turnpike.

The Sam Houston Tollway/North Freeway interchange is one of the busiest interchanges for drivers entering and leaving the metropolitan area.

Shortly after midnight, Houston police received a call saying that a teenager had a serious bicycle crash at the interchange. The police said her car was banned on the flyover.

Witnesses told the police that the girl might be worried about her safety because the car was speeding, and fled her car after the crash and jumped over the wall.

Sadly, the police said she was likely to die from the impact.

“It looks like she might want to avoid other traffic on the highway. You know what’s going on at night, she may have been trying to avoid it. Unfortunately, she may not know what’s down there,” Lieutenant Mark Contrera Said.

The police said the teenager was clearly lost, confused about his position after the crash, and may not have realized that there was a fall on the other side of the wall.

There was a paper tray in the victim’s car. The police have not yet released her identity.
