When Airbus announced plans to cease production of its A380 in 2019, heartbroken aviation fans found solace in the fact that the super jumbo jet will not stop flying anytime soon.
Production of this beloved aircraft will continue for a few more years, and many airlines have A380s in service in their fleets.
But fast forward a year, and the large size and high operating costs of the A380 have no place in the pandemic’s smallest, cost-effective international flight schedule.
Thanks to Covid-19, most of the A380 fleet in the world has been grounded.
Lufthansa’s decision to park the A380 caused the German airline to permanently retire the super jumbo jet. The last A380 with Air France uniforms made the final flight. It is increasingly unclear whether the A380 will survive the grounding.
However, although the A380’s days are undoubtedly numbered, some airlines have announced plans to re-take off the aircraft. Singapore Airlines will resume the use of A380 on flights to London in November 2021. In the same month, British Airways will launch a super airliner from the UK to Europe.

Singapore Airlines has 12 A380s in its fleet.

As early as 2007, the first ever commercial voyage of the A380 was from Singapore to Sydney via Singapore Airlines.
Before the pandemic, Singapore Airlines had 17 A380s. When Covid-19 hit, they were all grounded, and in November 2020, the airline announced plans to reduce its very large fleet to 12.
Now, Singapore Airlines has revealed plans to return some of its A380 aircraft.
Govindasamy said that Singapore Airlines recognizes the A380’s lasting appeal to passengers, which is part of the reason why the airline has resumed its aircraft rotation.
“The A380 is a great aircraft,” he said. “Some people just book the A380 specifically to ride it.”
Govindasamy added that it makes economic sense to return the A380 to the London-Singapore route because the aircraft’s seat density is very suitable for routes with limited airport slots.
As Govinda Sammy said, this decision is also part of Singapore Airlines’ “high-end positioning”.
“From a brand point of view, the A380 does provide a lot of conditions for us to operate it,” he said.
As for the restoration of the A380 for destinations outside of London, Govindasamy said that Singapore Airlines is currently considering other routes that can be served by super airliners.
“Before making a decision, we will continue to monitor this matter closely in the coming weeks and months,” he said, adding that returning the A380 to the original Singapore-Sydney route is the airline “will not Things rejected”. ”

This statement made many people worry about the future of this super-large passenger plane in Qatar Airways, but with the increase in international travel, the situation seems to be changing.
According to the airline’s online schedule, Qatar Airways plans to operate A380 aircraft between Doha and London Heathrow and Doha and Paris Charles de Gaulle from December 2021.
A Qatar Airways spokesperson declined to comment on the A380’s resumption of service and the airline’s future plans for the aircraft.

Qantas will operate the A380 on its Sydney-Los Angeles route from July 2022

Superjumbos plans to start operating Qantas’ Sydney-Los Angeles route from July 2022. From November 2022, they will criss-cross between Sydney and London via Singapore.
According to the airline’s statement, although Qantas’ two A380 aircraft will be retired, the remaining 10 aircraft should be put back into service in early 2024 with new interiors. The airline’s statement stated that the timing will “depend on Because of the speed of market recovery.”

A Korean Air spokesperson told CNN Travel that before the pandemic, Korean Air’s 10 A380s were “mainly used on long-distance routes with high passenger flow”.
Although Korean Air’s A380 does not currently fly to New York’s Kennedy Airport or Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, the two planes have been there, but a Korean Air spokesperson confirmed that the airline is currently operating the A380 from Incheon to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China for a week.
Guangzhou is also the hub of China Southern Airlines, with five A380s. According to FlightAware.com, the Chinese airline currently flies ultra-large passenger planes every week between Melbourne and Guangzhou and some flights to and from Los Angeles.
Korean Air is merging with Asiana Airlines, which has six A380s.
