Baton Rouge, Louisiana (WAFB) – A 9-year-old child was suspended for refusing to wear a mask in a fourth-grade classroom at a school on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

The student was suspended from school on Tuesday, January 4, which was the first day the student returned to the classroom after the holiday.

The boy’s father, Kyle Robichaux (Kyle Robichaux) said he supports his son’s decision. He added that he believes that requiring students to wear masks in classrooms is a “clown” and that thousands of people are allowed to gather at the nearby Pitt Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC) to participate in basketball games that do not require masks. On Tuesday night, nearly 12,000 fans watched the LSU men’s basketball team play against Kentucky in PMAC. The vast majority of fans do not wear masks.

The university laboratory recently notified parents that when classes resume this week, students will be required to wear masks in the classroom to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“We decided to let our children have their own faces,” Robichaux said. “All the children in the laboratory school could easily go to PMAC last night, sitting elbows by elbows without masks, but we asked them to wear masks in the classroom.”

The director of the laboratory, Kevin George, said in an email to the parents of the student that the student was suspended for three days for violating the mask policy. In the email, he reminded his parents that they had been told before that their son “cannot stay on campus and refused to follow the teacher’s instructions on wearing a mask.”

“Students who refuse to comply with our mask regulations are a safety issue and will disrupt our campus,” George’s email added.

“At this point, everyone knows that his mask task is a farce. I will not teach my children to follow a policy that lacks rational thinking,” Robichaux explained.
