Detroit (WXYZ)-The Detroit Police Department has been charged again.
CAIR Michigan filed a lawsuit against two DPD officials, alleging that they were arrested without any reasonable reason and with a lot of Islamophobia.
The body camera lens has been shared exclusively with Channel 7. CAIR stated that the footage showed problematic arrests, including the following exchanges:
DPD Officer Donald Owens “Muslims lie a lot.”
Unidentified female DPD officer: “Hmm…”
DPD officer Donald Owens: “They control them…like they feel…you…you…if you are a woman, you have no say. …..”
Unidentified female DPD officer: “…especially women.”
DPD Officer Donald Owens: “…you have no right to say…just like you do what we told you to do.”
On September 26 last year, officers Owens and Nathanial Mullen responded to a domestic harassment call in northwest Detroit. Upon arrival, the three men reported that they had been attacked by their female tenants. At the same time, the woman said that she was beaten.
CAIR Michigan State Attorney Amy Doukore said that without proper investigation, the three men were arrested without any reasonable grounds and were based on the Muslim bias of Officer Owens , This is a clear violation of human rights.
“The arrest warrant was issued after stating that he really didn’t know what happened. He will arrest everyone and let others solve the problem in the city center,” Ducour said.
At the same time, Dawud Walid, Executive Director of CAIR Michigan State, stated that this is a deep-rooted problem within the army and a solution must be found.
“Some black police officers have prejudice against other blacks because of their religious characteristics, which is very problematic,” Walid said.
DPD responded to the following statement:
The media notice of the lawsuit itself is the first notice of suspected misconduct. This triggered an investigation, which will be thoroughly reviewed by the Ministry of the Interior. Chief White ensures that the community will conduct a thorough investigation.
