Boston will mark the first stop of the 2022 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, the first time the event has been held in Boston since 2013. “It’s super exciting to be here in Boston,” Ellie Smart, one of this year’s Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series divers, said. Red Bull cliff diving combines aerial, acrobatic free falls and dives from almost 3 times the Olympic diving height, with athletes traveling at speeds of more than 50 miles per hour.”In the air, we do somersaults, we do twists and most people do a maneuver; a front flip with a half twist which then turns you over, so you land on your feet instead of hands first, like you see in the Olympics,” Smart said. Smart sits on the roster of 12 men and 12 women divers as the only American with a permanent stop on the eight-city tour which kicks off in Boston on June 4th. Boston is the sole stop in the United States for these skilled divers. Two weeks later they’ll head to Paris. The tour also makes stops in Copenhagen in Denmark, Oslo in Norway, Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sisikon in Switzerland, Polignano a Mare in Italy before finishing the season in Sydney, Australia. “It’s really such a thrill,” Smart said. “It’s so fun we get to jump off really high, crazy things all over the world.” The Boston event is nearly sold out, but a handful of free tickets will be released on June 1.
