Gruden resigned as head coach of the Raiders after the NFL discovered reports of homophobia, racism, and misogynistic e-mails during the NFL’s investigation of misconduct in the Washington football team’s workplace.
“EA Sports is committed to taking action to maintain a culture of tolerance and fairness,” the statement on Madden NFL 22 said.
“Due to the resignation of Jon Gruden, we are taking steps to remove him from Madden NFL 22. We will replace him with a generic portrait through a title update in the coming weeks.”
At the same time, since Gruden resigned, Raiders owner Mark Davis told ESPN that he had “no comment” on the matter.
“Ask the NFL,” he added. “They have all the answers.”
CNN has contacted the Raiders and the NFL to comment on Davis’s remarks.
The NFL previously told CNN that during the review of misconduct in the Washington football team’s workplace, the league was informed of the existence of e-mails that raised issues beyond the scope of the investigation.
Regarding Gruden’s resignation, Raiders quarterback Derek Carl told reporters on Wednesday, “I love this man and I hate sin.”
Carl added: “No one is perfect. If we just start to open everyone’s private emails and text messages, people will start to sweat… Maybe this is what they should do for all coaches and general managers from now on. Things to do with the boss. You must be open to everything to see what happens.
“You hate this action. You hate it. You shouldn’t like it, but you love this person and I love this person.”
“He just said that he has a lot of things to deal with, a lot of things have happened in the past few days, of course we support this request,” Mayok said.
The Raiders, which have led 3-2 so far this season, will face the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Rich Bisaccia was appointed as the interim head coach of the Raiders before the game.
