
Officer Mesquite died after shooting outside a grocery store – CBS Dallas/Fort Worth
Dallas (CBSDFW.COM) – On Friday afternoon, a Mesquite police officer who responded to harassing calls died after being shot dead in a grocery store parking lot.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 1:40 pm. The officer called Albertson’s on South Belt Line Road near Cartwright Road.

An Albertson’s spokesperson said the store closed briefly after the shooting, but then reopened. They said that Albertson’s heart was with the “person involved and their family members” and confirmed that they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation by law enforcement agencies.
In announcing the death of the police officer, Mesquite Police Chief David Gil said: “This is a senseless act of violence that took away his loving husband and father from his family.” “He is. A 21-year veteran of the Mesquite Police Department. He is a good man, a good friend, and a good officer. Please let his family and our family pray for you.”
The fallen police officer was the second police officer in the history of the Mesquite Police Department to die during duty. The first time was 47 years ago.
Officials earlier confirmed that both the police officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Authorities believe that the suspect committed suicide after shooting at the police officer, which is considered an attempted suicide.
