Chicago (CBS) — It has been almost three years since Kierra Coles disappeared. On her third birthday after her disappearance, her family still hopes that someone can remember something and help them find her.
The table is set and the cake is there, but the birthday girl was obviously absent on Friday night when she was 29day Birthday. Kierra Coles disappeared in the Southern District in October 2018.
There has been no news from her since then, but her mother has never lost hope.
“She is still alive, just waiting to go home,” Karen Phillips said. “But my daughter does not come to celebrate with us, and I am still very sad.”
For many years, a surveillance video was considered key evidence that Kira was wearing a U.S. Postal Service uniform near her home, but her mother said that Kira in the video was not Kira.
“We will not give up,” she said.
The FBI praised the online community for sharing valuable information about the recent disappearance and death of Gabby Petito in Wyoming.Her case and the attention it aroused has raised questions about other missing persons cases, especially women of color
“There is Gabby Petitos in the black and brown communities, and these families are eager to hear about their case,” said Derek Wilson, chief executive of the Black and Missing Foundation. “The missing person is not a black problem. This is not a white problem. This is an American problem.
“You looked for my daughter for a few weeks, and then it disappeared,” Phillips said. “Before she was found, you all did everything possible for this person.”
This month, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office invested more resources to help find women who have been missing for 3 years or more—about 170 cases in total.Women who like Kierra Coles
“Every year I pray that this is our last year without her,” Phillips said.
In this case, the reward has increased to nearly $50,000.
Chicago police said they are still investigating and treat the case as a high-risk investigation.
