Montgomery, Alabama (WSFA)-Montgomery Public Schools is investigating an “alleged incident” but will not disclose more.
In the past few days, WSFA 12 News has received calls from parents who said that a teacher at Goodwin Middle School was seen naked during a Zoom video call with students last week.
Due to COVID-19 cases, Goodwin Middle School will conduct distance learning by Tuesday.
Michaele Wright’s 13-year-old daughter attends this school. Wright said that her daughter was not on the phone, but a friend was on the phone.
She said that news about the incident had spread around the school.
“I’m just disgusted by the whole situation,” Wright said. “They shouldn’t be exposed to such things. I don’t know what the school system intends to do, but I don’t think he should go back to any school at all.”
“I am very angry about this and some measures must be taken,” she added.
WSFA 12 News contacted MPS for information, and we were told that “MPS has been informed of the suspected improper incident and has begun an investigation into the matter. Once the investigation is completed, we will take appropriate action.”
When asked if the teacher was still working at the school, an MPS spokesperson said they could not comment.
It is unclear whether the so-called incident was intentional or unintentional, but Wright said such an error is impossible.
“You are a role model, a teacher, so you shouldn’t put yourself in certain situations,” Wright said. “I mean, knowing that you have a group of kids using Zoom, why do you bring a laptop or anything that opens into your room or anywhere in the house. How could you make this kind of mistake? If you make this Wrong, you don’t need that kind of work.”
WSFA also contacted MPD to find out if they are investigating. A spokesperson referred the question to MPS.
