Rangnick will replace Solskjaer, who was recently fired, as the team’s head coach for the rest of the season, while they are seeking a full-time replacement.

The 63-year-old joined the Premier League club after leaving the position of head of sports and development at the Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Rangnick will sign a six-month contract with the club and provide two-year consulting services, and his current club locomotive will have to terminate his current contract.

CNN has contacted Manchester United and Lokomotiv Moscow for comments.

Manchester United became popular again, but for all the wrong reasons

A source at Manchester United told Reuters that the discussions between the two sides are still ongoing, but have not yet been finalized.

While waiting for work permits, he will not be responsible for Manchester United’s game against Chelsea on Sunday.

The move came after Solskjaer was fired from the club after three years as a manager. The club did not win the trophy.

He will take over a struggling Manchester United club, which ranks eighth in the Premier League one season after finishing second.
Rangnick is widely regarded as a pioneer in German football and an early adopter of the “gegenpress” tactical method. He is considered to be a challenge to Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel and Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsman and others have had an impact.

Before joining Lokomotiv Moscow, the German coach had coached in Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Schalke and Hannover.
