IT’S THE UP NEAR THE BORDER OF SOUTH DAKOTA AND MINNESOTA. SAW WHAT’S ACTUALLY CALLED A HABOOB. SO WE GOT THIS INCREDIBLE VIDEO IN OVERNIGHT A HABOOB IS AN INTENSE. STMOR YOU USUALLY SEE TMHE IN THE DESERT SO PLACES LIKE, ARIZONA ONEWR MEXICO, BUT THEY’VE BEEN SPOTTED IN IOWA IN THE PAST WHILE WE DON’T HAVE DRY DESERT SANDS. THERE WAS PLENTY OF DUST KICKED UP FROM THE FLDSIE YESTERDAY. YEAH. IT’S REALLY VISUAL OUT THERE TO SEE IT COMING MARCHING TOWARD YOU BUT IT ALSO PICKED UP SOME WINDS PRETTY HIGH RATES OUT THERE RIGHT VERY HIGH RATES . YEAH. Rare haboob rips through northwest Iowa

Some parts of northwest Iowa saw a rare weather phenomenon Thursday. Areas near the borders to South Dakota and Minnesota saw a haboob. A haboob is an intense dust storm. They are usually seen in the desert, but they have been spotted in Iowa in the past.While we don’t have dry desert sands, there was plenty of dust kicked up from fields during the event.That same storm also brought some strong winds, with reports of gusts up to 75 miles per hour.We’re still waiting to hear from the National Weather Service if it met the criteria for a derecho.

Some parts of northwest Iowa saw a rare weather phenomenon Thursday. Areas near the borders to South Dakota and Minnesota saw a haboob.

A haboob is an intense dust storm. They are usually seen in the desert, but they have been spotted in Iowa in the past.

While we don’t have dry desert sands, there was plenty of dust kicked up from fields during the event.

That same storm also brought some strong winds, with reports of gusts up to 75 miles per hour.

We’re still waiting to hear from the National Weather Service if it met the criteria for a derecho.
