Richmond, Virginia (WWBT)-The body you want is the other side of hard work-this is Maria Jones’ philosophy of life.
“I’m overweight and depressed, so I just want to make myself better,” she said.
Jones began to exercise, and the changes were almost immediate, both internally and externally.
“The women noticed that I was happier at work and that I was losing weight, so I said,’Come with me.'”
The commitment to her health developed into a new career as a personal trainer and her own gym “Body by Maria”.
Over time, she lost more than 80 pounds, from 215 pounds to 130 pounds.
Carmen Candelario is on her own fitness journey, and Maria leads the way.
“We know we can be ourselves without being judged. We exercise together, we make friends, and we motivate each other. My weight is 181 pounds. I can’t even walk fast. Now, I ran 2-4 miles, “Candelario said.
Candelario said that she considered having plastic surgery, but Maria showed her that a healthier life is possible.
“Everyone is undergoing surgery. Women start to look different. When you reach a certain age, you start to think, should I do the same thing? But at Body by Maria, we know that we can exercise, lose weight and do what we want. Live the way you want. It brings confidence, makes us feel good about ourselves, gives us inner strength, and makes us realize that we can accomplish anything,” Candelario said.
Carmen’s first step put her on an amazing path to success, and she wanted to tell Maria thank you by nominating her to participate in NBC12’s “good deeds”.
Maria received $300 and a $50 gift card for a Mexican restaurant.
Maria’s gym is more than just a place to exercise-it is a space where these women gather to get rid of insecurity and weight.
