Pittsburgh (KDKA)-The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office is now the only department in Pennsylvania that has all-electric vehicles.

On Wednesday, they launched the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, which is an all-electric cruiser.
The department plans to add a second one within a few months.

The sheriff said that other departments are seeking follow-up.
“We are the only people in the state with this ability,” said Lieutenant Connor Mullen. “A lot of police departments have contacted us, hoping to learn about and share our performance data about this car.”
The Sheriff’s Office expects that each electric vehicle will save at least $26,000 in fuel and maintenance costs.

They are also considering purchasing solar charging equipment, so even the electricity used to charge the fleet will come from green energy.
