The blue roof was mistakenly nailed to the woman’s new roof

New Orleans (WVUE)-Since Hurricane Ida ravaged the area, thousands of Louisiana residents have received blue roofs, but not everyone needs them. A New Orleans woman said she got one without asking, and now she hopes the Corps of Engineers will do it well.

For most hurricane victims, getting a blue roof is a pleasure to prevent further flooding of the house, but this Algiers woman said that her blue roof is definitely not the case.

“I went out and looked up, wow, that little blue roof tarp that I don’t need,” Tony Dunbar said.

She said that she noticed the tarp on Monday and was more worried about the blue roof that she had never asked for every day.

“I worry about dripping in my room every day,” she said.

Dunbar said that when no one was at home sometime last week, workers climbed up her roof and nailed the blue tarp. She said that her roof was almost brand new, only three months old, and the staff had no reason to stop at her house. After the storm, she even hired an insurance adjuster, and he said she didn’t need repairs.

Now, there are dozens of holes in her roof for nails for tarpaulins. The Corps of Engineers issued a statement of apology, saying that the blue roof was ordered nearby and the contractor made a mistake.

Corps spokesperson Luciano Vera said: “A work order was submitted and verified for the house on that street, and it appears that the contractor installed it on the wrong house.”

The corps stated that the contractor will now work with the homeowner to get it right.

“They will fix it or install a new roof for her for free because it is the contractor’s fault,” Vera said.

The corps stated that the repair work could be completed as early as this Saturday.

Since Hurricane Ida, the Corps of Engineers has installed 27,000 blue roofs in Louisiana. The deadline for applying for the blue roof is midnight on Friday. You can call 888 766 3258 or visit blueroof.us.
