An important advisory committee of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will meet on Thursday to discuss the booster shots of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccines, and whether people can mix and match the vaccines of the two companies.
The meeting was held on the second day after the US Food and Drug Administration authorized the booster injection of the two vaccines, which is another key step in the allocation of additional doses. The FDA has also approved mixed and matched vaccine doses.
The authorization will open up booster doses for more than 15 million people vaccinated by Johnson & Johnson and more than 69 million people who have been fully immunized with Moderna vaccine.
If the committee issues recommendations on Thursday, and CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky signs and agrees, additional vaccines for these vaccines can be immediately distributed to eligible people.
