He was admitted to the hospital due to fatigue and weakness on October 5 and was transferred to the intensive care unit on Saturday, a spokesperson for the private institution where he was treated told CNN.
Praveen Jojo, the liaison officer for KIMSHealth in Thiruvananthapuram, southern Kerala, said Venu passed away early in the afternoon.
The doctor who treated Vinu told CNN that he died of kidney-related problems and sepsis.
Local media reported that Venu had recovered from Covid-19 earlier this year.
Vinu made his first appearance in the Malayalam film “Thampu” (“Circus Tent”) in 1978 and won his first place for his role in the 1981 film “Vida Parayum Munpe” Award for best actor in Malayalam.
Vinu continued acting until shortly before his death, and appeared in the movies “Yuvam” and “Aanum Pennum” earlier this year.
He also has many upcoming works, including “Maraca: Arabian Sea Lion” and “Aratu”.
