The MCTS driver who rescued the boy was recognized by the state assembly as a “hometown hero”
Madison, Wisconsin -The Wisconsin State Legislature will name Milwaukee County Transportation System (MCTS) bus drivers as “hometown heroes” at the upcoming legislative meeting on Wednesday, October 27th.
In 2019, on the bus route of Cecilia Nation nominated by her state representative LaKeshia Myers (Milwaukee Democratic Party), she rescued a 6-year-old boy from a busy intersection.
“Cecilia’s quick thinking and selflessness saved a boy’s life,” said R-Kaukauna, the leader of the parliamentary majority party who elected her for the award. “It is great that we have people like Cecilia caring and serving our community.”
According to the press release, when Nation stopped at what she thought would be a normal stop, she noticed a little boy wandering alone at a busy intersection. The disabled boy has left the school and is walking in the middle of the street. Nation sensed the danger and quickly ran off her bus and took the boy to a safe place. This boy is the tenth missing or missing child that MCTS has recovered in recent years.
The press release stated that Wisconsinians have a long and prominent history of community service and selflessness. In accordance with this tradition, the Wisconsin State Assembly created the Hometown Heroes Program to identify and recognize individuals from all over the state who are committed to making communities a better place. The winners were invited to the State Capitol and had the opportunity to speak at the conference as special guests.
Congratulations!
