— After searching Lake Lochmere between Kildaire Farm Road and South South Cary Parkway, staff found the body of a man on Wednesday morning.

Before 10 am, a number of emergency rescuers, including firefighters and police, responded to the rail of Lochmere Drive 475

A spokesperson for the town of Cary said that an eyewitness reported that a man was seen entering the lake at about 9:30 in the morning

Amanda Lamb of WRAL spoke with a woman who witnessed the scene and called 911. The woman was driving on Lochemere Drive when she noticed a man stopping his pickup truck and running towards the lake. According to reports, he saw another woman also rushing towards the lake.

Several people tried to pull one person out of the cold lake.

Worried about hypothermia—for the victim and those who jumped in behind him—witnesses called 911.

However, while they were waiting for the ambulance, witnesses said that the man jumped back into the lake, swam to the middle, raised his hands in the air, and then sank.

Another witness said that he drove his girlfriend to work when he saw a crazy woman rushing to the lake. He rushed to help a number of other drivers, who were trying to rescue a man who seemed to slip and fall in the water.

He said that the man looked in his 60s. While waiting for the ambulance, the man was sitting on the edge of the pier, and there was at least one person who went into the water to help him.

“He sat down. He grabbed his head. He started thinking, and then he started to back up. He stood up and said,’You all take care of him, don’t worry about me,'” the witness described.

Witnesses said: “He threw his face into the water first, without turning his head back, he swam about 5 or 7 feet, and then sank directly.”

Officials confirmed that about an hour later, the staff found a body in the lake.
