Revere (CBS)-On Wednesday morning, a tanker overturned and crashed in Revere, leaking nearly 10,000 gallons of diesel. According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, these problems are expected to continue into the evening commute.
According to state police, the truck was towing fuel from Revere to Barre when it rolled to the right when it entered the Brown Circle spinning area at about 3:30 am. The fuel tank was punctured and almost all of the fuel overflowed. The firefighters laid a layer of foam to prevent the smoke from catching fire or exploding.
Both sides of Highway 60 were closed immediately, and some parts have been opened and closed throughout the day for cleaning and road maintenance.

The driver was asked to avoid the area as much as possible. MassDOT said that it is expected to start milling and paving around 8pm because the road was damaged by the car accident.
Revere Fire Chief Chris Bright said that some diesel spilled into the storm drain and then flowed into the Saugus River. The Coast Guard and the Department of Environmental Protection are working hard to control the leak.
State police stated that the truck had “brake system defects” at the time of the accident.
The truck driver, only identified as a 41-year-old man, was taken to the hospital for treatment due to head injuries. Revere police stated that he has not faced any charges in the current investigation.
