Minneapolis (WCCO) — The Minnesota National Guard’s C Company, 1st Battalion, and 194th Field Artillery Regiment will celebrate their return to Minnesota on Sunday.

“We are responsible for the land-based phalanx weapon system. Our main task is our defensive assets in a specific location,” explained 1Yingshi Lieutenant Will Hermanson.

The task may sound complicated.

“Any indirect shot of the remote control key or the base, we will destroy it,” 1 saidYingshi Dustin Olsen, platoon sergeant.

But when the Minnesota National Guard’s C Company, First Battalion, and 194th Field Artillery Regiment returned from Afghanistan and Iraq this summer, the feeling is a feeling that we can all empathize with.

“Tears are streaming, hugs are happening, and we see the children running,” Hermanson said.

Welcome back to officially continue in Alexandria on Sunday.

“When I got home, I saw it finally became such an incident, and it was really heartwarming to see it,” said Captain Tom Bowers, C Battery Commander. “This is why we joined the army, and this is why we serve.”

Sergeant Olsen returned from deployment and saw his six-month-old son Everett for the first time.

“A lot of joy. You can make things like FaceTime videos, but it can only do so much,” Olsen said. “The first contact with him and my wife was very special to me.”

Many members of the National Guard returned on Sunday and started a new life.

“For me, reintegrating into my family is positive,” Olsen said.

At the Sunday ceremony, remind those who need help to adapt to civilian life.

“As part of a soldier, as part of this team, part of this is understanding when you are under this pressure and you need help,” said Commander Major George Jenson.

For those who serve, this is an important day.

“This is something that veterans don’t always have in history, so it’s really humble to be a part of it,” Olsen said.
